But the flip side is that, depending on your interests and skill set, you might be looking at a much more dangerous profession. According to a new study from CareerCast.com of the 10 most dangerous jobs, first responders (EMTs, firefighters) and law enforcement officers (police officers, corrections officers) all make the list. Other risky professions are in transportation â€" taxi and truck drivers both make CareerCast’s most dangerous jobs list â€" as well as healthcare. Perhaps surprisingly, both human and animal healthcare workers are at risk, with the top 10 list including nursing assistants as well as veterinarians. “Animals can be unpredictable,” CareerCast’s online content editor Kyle Kensing said in a statement. The risks are especially high for vets who specialize in agricultural medicine, he added, saying, “Those who work with livestock and other large animals risk serious injury.” On the plus side, it should be noted, vets are the best-paid of the dangerous job holders, earning an average of $88,490 a year. Agriculture has the potential to be a dangerous field for farmers that work the fields, as well, according to CareerCast. Construction workers round out the top 10. On the flip side, CareerCast said many of the safest jobs are in IT or mathematical fields, where the worst you might encounter is eyestrain from staring at a screen for hours at a time.
